FAQ

Through our blended learning approach, with foundational contents delivered through our online learning platform and application workshops being held on campus, we are fully prepared for flexible delivery.

Our 2022/23 module workshops are planned to be delivered fully on-campus.

However, if need be, we will be fully flexible to move to online mode. We have done so successfully during 2020/21 and 2021/22.

We do offer an option to interested parties to take individual core knowledge modules for a fee, without earning credit points toward a degree. In this case, you would not be enrolled as student at ETH but rather follow the module as an auditing participant.

The regular fee for one knowledge module is CHF 3'000.

If you are interested in such option, please get in touch with our program manager to discuss details.

Please, find an overview of the 2022/23 schedule here.

We have designed the program such that participants can continue working full-time while participating in the program. Over the course of the program, our participants will spend ca. 12 days out of office, i.e. days that fall into standard working days. Often, CAS participants use overtime or part of their annual leave to attend certain on-campus sessions.

The following out-of-office estimates apply:

  • Block I - Core Knowledge Modules (10 Out-of-Office Days):
The on-campus sessions will take place on Thursdays and Fridays. Individual study and preparation time (online learning platform) can be scheduled freely and flexibly in agreement with the job responsibilities and work schedule of the participant.
  • Block II - Business Project (0 Out-of-Office Days):
The business coaching sessions can be scheduled flexibly with your coach, adapted to the job schedule of each participant.
  • Block III - Leadership Development (0 Out-of-Office Days):
The leadership coaching will require five on-campus sessions on Saturdays (in conjuction with the Knowledge Modules). Other interventions and activities will be held online and are hence flexible with your work schedule.
  • Block IV - Study Trip (ca. 5 Out-of-Office Days, depends on your traveling arrangements):
The one-week international study trip will require participants to take off up to 5 work days.

Overall, the 15 ECTS of this program equate to roughly 420 work hours spread over the course of 11-12 months, depending on your scheduling of the final business project report. Most participants will opt to complete this entirely in addition to their full-time job while others may want to consider negotiating flexible arrangements around their work schedule to allocate time to the study.

The time and travel commitments of this program are generally manageable, in particular for interested participants from neighboring regions or other easy-to-commute locations. Zurich is a highly accessible place with excellent railway and airport infrastructures, which offers in particular participants from surrounding European countries opportunities to take part in the CAS ELTV.

The majority of the coaching elements is done remotely or in conjunction with knowledge modules, to bundle travel. The educational sessions are designed such that most professionals should be able to align travels well with their job obligations.

Our faculty comes with a extensive experience in different international contexts. The program language is entirely in English and we are generally promoting a highly international outlook.

Note, the participation in a part-time continuing education program will not allow foreign nationals to obtain a visa should you need one to enter Switzerland.

No, not necessarily.

  • The CAS ELTV will offer you a prime opportunity to develop an own innovative high-tech business case, this is not a necessary requirement for applying. Students without a project at the program start, will be guided by their coach through an intensive ideation phase that will allow them to conceptualize a business idea.
  • Alternatively, you may want to match with one of the existing technology venture projects from ETH that are part of the program. Matching will require a lot of interest from the outside party and initiative to get in touch with the project lead to explore commonalities and complementarities.

All participants as well as lecturers and coaches will be bound by NDAs.

For all ETH technologies, the extensive data handling processes and regulations of ETH apply. For accepted third-party projects, we will sign multi-party NDAs with all participants.
